Oundle School

Co-educational, independent school, Oundle recently opened the doors to its SciTec B building, a new site that brings science, technology, engineering and maths together in one campus. Of course these are all subjects close to our hearts, so we were delighted to be involved.

TDS was asked to detail the feature staircase in the building’s foyer, a hub area at the heart of the campus, that doubles as an event and lecture space. The staircase is an eye-catching helical design, formed in steel with a curved oak handrail and flooded with natural light from the impressive circular skylight overhead. Our team set about producing the layout and fabrication package using AutoCAD to realise the architects’ and engineers’ vision for the feature.

The whole project had to take into account the constraints of working within a school site, as such we stuck rigidly to our detailing delivery timings to ensure our part in avoiding any unnecessary disruption to the school community. SciTec B is an inspiring space for pupils and we hope some will be taking steps up the learning curve toward a career in 3D digital design and BIM.
