THE PROJECT

The Dixons Academies Trust chose the former Bradford College site to be the location for their 4th Free School, the Dixons McMillan Academy.

It was a building very much in need of conversion in order to provide a modern, fit-for-purpose learning environment for 11-18 year olds. In addition to the conversion a double-height, multi-use entrance hall was added to the existing structure and a freestanding, new build sports hall was added to the site.

OBJECTIVE

TDS were asked to design the additional steelwork required to strengthen the existing building throughout the extensive renovation and remodel. We were also commissioned to provide a new access/escape staircase for the double-height entrance area as well as plant access stairs to the roof.

OUTCOME

We received, from our contractor client, all necessary site surveys of the demolition works and designs for the steelwork. From this, using 2D digital design, we produced a comprehensive set of steelwork details for approval. After the sign-off, we issued the designs to the fabricator complete with all information to ensure they could be correctly and efficiently assembled on site.
