White City is fast becoming one of the top locations in West London, and the recent redevelopment of the BBC Television Centre has played a crucial role in making this happen. Once home to several of the nation’s most famous TV studios, this landmark now offers a total of over 900 flats and family homes. There is also an independent cinema and a gym, and the famous courtyard has been landscaped to offer beautiful views to enjoy while dining al fresco. All of these facilities were included to encourage the development of a thriving community within the complex, and there is also the Soho House hotel for visitors.
Our client was confident that they could entrust this project to TDS, as they had already witnessed first-hand the skills of our teams on previous projects. We were asked to detail both the surrounds of each fireplace and the integrated shelving units which will feature in all of the premium residential and penthouse apartments. Our team used their skills to ensure that they achieved the highest standard of quality, meeting not only the expectations of the client, but also those who will be living in these first-class homes.
In order to achieve this quality, all of the exposed steelwork was water cut to produce the cleanest lines possible. The size of the available goods lift also had to be taken into consideration when detailing the shelving units. If these were too large to fit inside, then it would not have been possible to install them into the apartments. This created an additional challenge, but it was not a major issue for our skilled teams who are accustomed to working around such limitations.
This is a very exciting project for West London’s area of White City and we are proud to have had the opportunity to work on such an iconic landmark. We have enjoyed working on the smaller details that will bring high definition to these homes, and look forward to seeing the thriving community that will develop in the area.
