TDS have recently completed work on the extension of the Fish Brothers’ KIA and VW dealership in Swindon. It was by no means one of our larger projects, however it still required the same high standards, ingenuity and attention to detail that our biggest commissions demand.
Working on a smaller footprint simply means scaling down the proportions but not the engineering. We were asked to design and detail the steel structure for the extension of the existing industrial building, the new addition to the car dealership required a mezzanine floor, a staircase and the means of cladding the building with a new façade.
Our specialist team approached the project with their wealth of experience on similar industrial buildings with columns, rafters and vertical roof bracings. For the dealership’s main structure, purlins and rails, Kingspan cold roll profiles were specified. To achieve the architectural specification for the exterior, which features a horizontal insulated flat panel composite cladding system, vertical panel joint rails and intermediate rails were used to support the perpendicular paneling.
The finished building is a great example of how functional, industrial architecture doesn’t have to compromise on aesthetic and how comfortable TDS are whatever the project size.
