2018 has been a fantastic year for all of us here at TDS. Working with clients both old and new, our teams have been challenged with an array of exciting projects. These opportunities have really allowed us to demonstrate our skills within the construction industry, and with the new year just around the corner, this is the perfect time to look back on what we have achieved over the last 12 months.
From the redevelopment of the BBC Television Centre to the 65,000 sq ft Brinell Building, we have worked on projects of all shapes and sizes. Our excellent standard of work has also been recognised by the world’s oldest luxury leather brand, Delvaux, who tasked us with detailing a feature staircase for their new flagship store in London, while our innovation saw us overcome the issues faced in redeveloping Grade II listed buildings like Hobhouse Court. We also played a role in the creation of several new communities, including Royal Wharf and Chelsea Barracks. This year brought us a whole range of inspiring projects to work on, and we are proud of what our teams have managed to accomplish.
We were also delighted to make four very special announcements this year. We started off January by being recognised in the Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer List 2017 at the National Apprenticeship Awards. The Top 100 list is compiled annually recognising excellence in organisations that employ apprentices. It showcases the breadth of employers who now offer apprenticeships, and we were (and still are!) delighted that our organisation is amongst this prestigious list. Then in the summer, our lead engineer, Garrick Thomas, won the 2018 Tekla Award. This success came about from his innovative solutions in detailing a particularly complex feature staircase and atrium balustrade. This was well-deserved on Garrick’s part, and we are thrilled with his fantastic achievement. Then, in November, TDS were officially awarded the BSI Certificate for BIM Level 2 Accreditation. Our company strongly believes that the future of the construction industry lies in BIM technology, and the government has also recognised its benefits. In 2016, they announced that construction suppliers are required to have BIM Level 2 in order to work on government projects, and so we are looking forward to seeing what new opportunities this accreditation will bring us in the new year.
Finally, we were also delighted to announce that our managing director, Daniel Leech, was made a member of Buildoffsite’s new Governing Forum, and will continue to represent small and medium-sized enterprises like TDS. With only 5 members in total, this was a fantastic achievement for Daniel, who is certainly suited to this role. He has long been an advocate for modern construction methods, like BIM, and as a forum member he has now taken an official role as an advocate for construction innovation. TDS are innovators within the construction industry, and we can’t wait to see what innovations the future will bring.
We all endeavoured to work together and help our company achieve greatness, and with no end of good news, it is safe to say that this has been a great year for all of us here at TDS. We are certain that the achievements we have made this year will be the building blocks for an even greater 2019. We will be closing at 1pm on Friday, 21st December for the Christmas break, and will reopen on Wednesday, 2nd January at 8:30am. From all of us here at TDS, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
