An Uplifting Project

One of TDS’s biggest ongoing projects is our involvement with the redevelopment and overhaul of London Bridge railway station. As the fourth busiest station in the UK it welcomes 56 million people into the capital every year and with passenger numbers on the increase the scheme was implemented to provide travellers a new, modern and integrated station fit for the future.

Since the project’s start our teams have contributed to many and varied aspects of the development, however our biggest single commission has been for one of the new station’s most fundamental improvements. TDS has been responsible for a series of lifts that will, ultimately, provide step-free access to every platform in the station. Our specialist teams have completed the detailing of three lifts in their entirety, which includes the main structural carcass, blast-proof glass, floor trims and the luggage rails that surround the lift’s interfacing with balustrade.

London Bridge has had to continue to function as one of London’s busiest stations throughout this major renovation. So, as with all our projects, we have focused on efficient collaboration with other providers and trades to ensure our part in such a large operation runs smoothly to reduce disruption.

As a company we share a similar ethos with main contractor, Costain, who have run their Skills Academy to educate and up-skill their team throughout the course of the redevelopment. So not only are we immensely proud to be involved in such a high profile commission, we’re also delighted that two of our TDS apprentices have been part of our highly skilled team delivering those solutions.
